ARE YOU LGBTQ+ AND OVER 20 YEARS OLD?
DO YOU FEEL LIKE YOUR PARENTS DO NOT ACCEPT YOUR IDENTITY?
DO YOU SOMETIMES FEEL DOWN OR ANXIOUS?

As part of a joint research project conducted by Ben-Gurion University and Yale University, we are providing 16 weeks of cost-free online psychotherapy, offering two of the leading evidence-based LGBTQ+ affirmative treatments designed for LGBTQ+ young adults and their nonaccepting parents. One of the treatments is attachment-based family therapy for sexual and gender minority young adults (Diamond & Borochovitz-Zamir, 2023) and the other is LGBTQ-affirmative individual cognitive-behavioral therapy (Pachankis et al., 2019; 2020). Both treatments have been found to be effective in previous research studies, and participants in this study will be randomly allocated to one of them.

The project is designed for LGBTQ+ young adults, at least 20 years old, who have been out of the closet to their parent(s) for one year or more, yet feel like at least one of their parents still does not fully accept them. To participate, the young adult needs to feel like their parent's nonacceptance has negatively impacted upon them and upon their relationship with their parent. Because the project is funded by the Israel Science Foundation (ISF), all of the treatment is free. Participants will, however, be asked to complete questionnaires throughout the course of the study. The therapy sessions take place through Zoom. To check to see if you are eligible to participate, please click on the icon below.
