The BGU Psychotherapy Research Lab is housed in the Department of Psychology at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Beer Sheva, Israel. Under the supervision of Prof. Gary M. Diamond, lab members engage in clinical research on the quality of LGBTQ+ young adults' relationships with their parents, and on the process and outcome of Attachment-Based Family Therapy for Sexual and Gender Minority Young Adults and their nonaccepting parents (ABFT-SGM). Some of the processes we examine include treatment engagement, the therapeutic alliance, emotional processing, parental reflective functioning, young adult vulnerability, changes in parental acceptance and rejection, and changes in attachment.
